Roasted green tea from Japan, Kagoshima
Lightly roasted green tea - Kukicha. It has a bright, slightly roasted taste and aroma. Suitable for drinking after meals.
The big characteristic of Hojicha is that it contains less caffeine. Green tea contains health-beneficial substances like tannin, caffeine, vitamins (A, B2, C, E, K...). By roasting, caffeine evaporates but tannins, the substances are known to have an anti-cancer effect, are left in Houjicha. Thus we say you can have more gulps of Houjicha than normal green tea, and also kids and older people can drink it.
Preparation: Allow 2 teaspoons of tea for 0,5 l of boiled water, cooled down to 85°C, steep for 1 - 3 minutes.
