Damian Piątkowski - tea pottery PL
Damian fires his original pieces in an electric kiln, he lives and creates in Staszów/Kielce, Poland. "I first came into contact with clay over a decade ago (date of the introduction is year 2025), and almost immediately – perhaps a bit boldly – I tried to make a teapot. It was ugly and impractical, but for me, the teapot was the essence of ceramics.
More...Since then, teapots have been a recurring theme in my work, though for a long time I wasn’t sure who they were really for. I wasn’t yet part of the world of fine teas and teaware. That changed somewhat by accident – while living in the Czech Republic for a year and a half, I stumbled upon a tea festival called Čajomír. That’s when I realized: these were the people I wanted to make things for. I gradually immersed myself in the tea world, discovering the richness of flavor and the tools that help bring it to life.
Every piece I make is a result of exploration – I rarely repeat myself. I experiment with techniques, mostly throwing on the wheel, although my forms often stray far from the usual roundness. My ceramics range from smooth, delicate porcelain to rough, scorched-looked clay. Despite the variety, people often say they can recognize my style – that my pieces have personality, emotion, and sometimes even a life of their own. While they might appear loose or spontaneous, I draw on five years of engineering studies to ensure they function well – a good grip, a clean pour, a lid that fits just right. My process is intuitive, but always with the intention of creating something that serves not just tea, but the moment it’s shared in."
