Mishima Ware
was first created on the Korean peninsula during the Joseon period in the 15th and 16th centuries. The Mishima style refers to pottery made of grey clay with a large amount of iron; patterns are applied to its surface by various methods using a white masking glaze. Regardless of the method of decoration, after the white layer is applied, the piece is covered with a transparent glaze and fired.
